In the original text Baum has Oz , or at least his puppets, tranform into different things for each of the main characters who visit him , a giant head , a beautiful woman ,a giant monster, and a giant ball of flames. While I would have liked to have done them all as some sort of stages for him as a final boss to the story mode. I settled on the giant head as I felt that read more as the symetrical 'divine' look that I imagine the construct would be made to look , I wanted him to look vaguely machine like but not to much that he would obviously been built

Here you can see me gettting closer to the final design , I decided to settly on this sort of mustacheoed look of the cliche look of an early 20th century magician with the mustache 'wings' being 'Z's ,reflecting the vain disposition of the wizard. the large cranium also connotates to a high interlect filling out the supposed 'wise' criteria of the wizard. all together I wanted the design to look kind of forced and cliche as it would be a superficial mask and a munufactured appearence that hid the true wizard
