The Tin Woodman in the original text used to be a man , a lumberjack, that gradually was turned into tin after a number of accidents. To harken back to his lumberjack roots by encorporating the axe right into the design and also the final colour scheme being a nudge to the big lumbering yellow construction vehicles we see on building sites in real life

Tin man final

Tin man final alternate costume :

At this point I decided to go with the more ,reletively, humanoid looking design , I wanted him to feel really clunky ,awkward, and like he would fall over at any point yet have a really broad and solid look to him with all the brutalist hard surface shapes the strange the pyrimid like neck with the tiny head on top and the hoof like feet that didn't look like they could support his weight really stuck out to me and helped convey what Iwas going for. There was also alot of mechanical 'nuts and bolts' around his joints to give the illusion that he was now a completely mechanicle entity.

The tin mans head I had alot of fun with. I decided to play around with more human looking features and some more mechanicle looking ones with there being suggestions of a sort of beard and mustache this was alittle on the nose so in the end I went for the bottom left which was a bit more subtle in that regard and also gave the effect that the character was deceptively devoid of feeling . As a bonus you can also see the idea of the final face being a protective face plate that would retract around the middle bottom face.
